2023 Webinar Series Recap

The Expert Insights season 2023 has come to an end. This year, we hosted a total of six webinars with over 660 registered attendees, who were actively engaging in the conversations, asking questions and facilitating great discussions. Of course, none of this would have been possible without our eight speakers, who delivered unique insights into their fields of expertise. As we are slowly moving closer towards the sixth annual INHOPE Summit, we want to take a look back on all the amazing presentations we had the pleasure of witnessing.

The season began with 188 attendees joining to hear from Carolina Christofoletti. The threat intelligence researcher at TRM Labs, guided participants through a deep dive into the most recent trends identified through blockchain analysis. She outlined threat-actor network trends identified by TRM labs and shared best practices on how to distinguish CSAM vendors from CSAM scammers. Access recap.

Combatting CSAM is rigorous, especially for content moderators reviewing and processing incoming reports of suspected illegal content. During our next webinar, Jean Claffey, Senior Wellness and Resiliency manager at TaskUs explained the importance of prioritising mental health in trust and safety. She outlined common challenges with traditional wellness programmes and shared best practices on embedding wellness within the employee lifecycle. Access recap.

The third webinar of the season, "Data for Change" dove deep into children’s digital experiences worldwide. Serena Tommasino, Safe Online Advocacy and Knowledge lead at EVAC highlighted why evidence generation is critical in developing appropriate national system responses to online child sexual violence. Daniel Kardefelt-Winther, UNICEF's research lead on Digital Engagement and Protection, guided participants through the research findings of the large-scale project Disrupting Harm which investigated young people's experiences with digital technology across 13 different countries across Eastern and Southern Africa and Southeast Asia. Access recap.

The INHOPE Annual Report was launched in April 2023. And the fourth webinar of the season offered a deep dive into the report, all the projects started in 2022, and the milestones and outcomes achieved as a global organisation. Abby Roberts presented INHOPE’s strategic direction and outlined our organisational pillars essential to applying the strategic plan. Kalina Zografska took attendees through a high-level overview of the latest reporting trends and explained the process behind the reporting journey.
Access recap.

As online games continue to play an increasingly essential role in the lives of young people, ensuring their safety is at the core of many discussions worldwide. GamerSafer Co-founder Maria Oliveria Tamellini held a nuanced presentation on the dynamics of online multiplayer games. She outlined various existing safeguarding features and emphasised the importance of innovation and cooperation in creating a safer online gaming environment for youth audiences. Access recap.

The last 2023 webinar closed this season with a fascinating insight into the benefits of open-source intelligence (OSINT) in the fight against CSAM. Maike Borst, a digital specialist at the Dutch National Police, outlined five investigation cases which were solved or advanced with the help of OSINT. She provided a unique perspective on how combining OSINT and police data can help pinpoint locations, identify offenders and save victims' lives. Access recap.
